How do he dey be?*

My name is Naomi and I am a student of the Willem de Kooning Academy.

As a little girl I was already drawing on the living room walls and that developed into where I am today in my creative life. Drawing on the walls (which I still do) is because I want to show my themes. Being seen and acknowledged in my themes is what I want to achieve. Who am I? What is my roots? What is Africa anyway?

I was born in Leiden and raised in beautiful Zeeland. Now I live in the most beautiful city in the Netherlands called 'Rotterdam, and still I marvel at this beautiful city that has so much to offer in terms of art and my fellow man.

My surroundings inspire me, buildings and facades in which (complex) details can be seen fascinate me.

Where I see myself in 5 years I will not answer, an African saying once taught me: 'If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together".

* This means "How are you" in Pidgin. (Nigerian slang) My roots are partly in Benin.
